About Dr Saliya Weeraman

Personal Profile

Dr Saliya Weeraman is a Consultant Dermatologist at Chaucer Hospital with extensive experience in the diagnosis, treatment and management of a wide range of skin conditions. With a career in dermatology spanning more than two decades, he provides expert care for patients with both routine and complex dermatological concerns, combining clinical expertise with a compassionate, patient-centred approach. He is currently practising within the Kent Integrated Dermatology Service and has previously held consultant positions within East Kent Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and services in Essex, contributing significantly to dermatological care across the region.

Having commenced his medical training in 1996 and qualified in 2001, Dr Weeraman subsequently developed a specialist interest in dermatology and has been practising within the specialty since 2005. Throughout this period, he has built extensive expertise in the assessment and treatment of skin disorders affecting patients of all ages and skin types. His broad experience enables him to manage both common and complex conditions, providing accurate diagnosis and evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each individual patient.

A key area of Dr Weeraman's practice is the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. Early identification and treatment of potentially serious skin lesions are essential aspects of modern dermatological care, and he has considerable experience in assessing suspicious moles, skin lesions and sun-related skin damage. His expertise includes the investigation, diagnosis and management of a wide range of pre-cancerous and cancerous skin conditions, helping patients receive timely and appropriate treatment when required.

Alongside his specialist skin cancer work, Dr Weeraman provides comprehensive general adult dermatology services. He assesses and treats a broad spectrum of skin conditions, including inflammatory skin disorders, chronic skin diseases, acne, eczema, psoriasis, sun-damaged skin, benign skin lesions and many other dermatological problems. His commitment to holistic care ensures that treatment plans are carefully tailored to address not only the condition itself but also the impact it may have on a patient's wellbeing and quality of life.

Dr Weeraman also performs a variety of dermatological surgical procedures. These include skin biopsies, lesion removal and minor surgical treatments carried out for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. His expertise in dermatological surgery allows patients to access specialist procedures within a consultant-led setting, ensuring continuity of care from diagnosis through to treatment and follow-up.

Patients who consult Dr Weeraman benefit from a thorough and considered approach. He believes that effective dermatological care begins with careful listening, detailed assessment and clear communication. He takes time to explain diagnoses, discuss treatment options and ensure that patients feel fully informed and involved in decisions regarding their care. His reputation for thoroughness, professionalism and dedication reflects his longstanding commitment to delivering high-quality dermatological services.

Dr Weeraman is experienced in treating all skin types and understands that skin conditions can have a significant impact on confidence, comfort and everyday life. Whether managing common skin complaints, investigating a concerning mole, performing dermatological surgery or treating skin cancer, his focus remains on delivering personalised care that meets the specific needs of each patient.
