About Mr Roland Hettige

Personal Profile

Mr Hettige is a fully trained Ear, Nose & Throat consultant surgeon. He specialises in Rhinology which encompasses Rhinoplasty (functional due to nasal blockage & purely cosmetic); blocked & runny noses; nasal allergy; sinus problems and polyps; loss of smell; sinus headaches; chronic ear aches; snoring and sleep apnoea. He is also fully trained in general ENT and Children and Young Person's ENT conditions.

Mr Hettige can see and consult on children of all ages. Whilst most young children can be managed without surgery, when it is required, he undertakes this at The Princess Margaret Hospital for children aged 3 and above. 

Mr Hettige has acquired key specialist surgical skills having operated: - 250+ Rhinoplasties: external and closed (no scar); functional and cosmetic; primary and revisions; with grafting and reconstruction with donor rib cartilage (Tutoplast) - 750+ Sinuses: advanced polyps and extended procedures, including Frontal and Sinus Balloon Dilations - 400+ Nasal Airway Septal straightening procedures: including primary and revisions - 750+ Tonsil and Adenoid procedures: adults and paediatrics; modern techniques (Coblation); tonsillotomy and tonsillectomy; for recurrent tonsillitis and obstructive sleep apnoea.

He has spent the last 10 years gaining super-specialist expertise in advanced nasal and sinus surgery both in London and Oxford. When he took up his current consultant post at Wexham Park Hospital he became the lead surgeon responsible for the Rhinology service. He routinely accepts referrals from other colleagues to perform difficult and revision surgery and his unique skills and experience now attract referrals throughout Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and the London boroughs.

Mr Hettige is on the Clinical Effectiveness and Audit Committee (CEAC) for the local NHS Trust. He is on the executive panel for SFOUK (Student and Foundation Otolaryngology UK), a National Body designed at promoting ENT as a career and educating junior doctors and medical students, and is also on the executive committee of the electronic data-management system of the Trust.

In addition to his clinical work, he was proud to be part of the faculty of this years hugely successful European Rhinological Conference in London.
