Personal Profile

Mr Stirling has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist for over 20 years. He specializes in cataract and refractive surgery and the use of premium intra-ocular lenses including the latest astigmatism correcting and multi-focal lens implants.  He has undertaken many thousands of cataract operations.

He qualified from Leicester Medical School and started his ophthalmology training in Newcastle after having spent a year teaching human anatomy and cell biology to medical and dental students at Newcastle University Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology training in Nottingham and Leeds. He undertook a fellowship in corneal surgery in Adelaide, Australia under the tutorship of world renowned surgeon Professor Doug Coster.

Mr Stirling is a fully accredited eye surgeon. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist to Darlington Memorial Hospital and the Friarage Hospital in 1998. He was clinical lead for the ophthalmology service and also clinical tutor. He has taught numerous eye surgeons in training. He has also spent 10 years as an examiner in ophthalmology for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

He worked as a full time NHS consultant performing high volume and complex cataract surgery before working full time at Woodlands in 2019. He is a meticulous surgeon and devoted to giving his patients the very best care they can receive.
