Dr Dhotarkar obtained Fellowship status of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2018 . Later he achieved Fellowship status from the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists .
Early in his career, he developed an interest in pain medicine and regional anaesthetics techniques. His higher pain training was in Oxford Deanery and advanced pain training from the prestigious Queen Square and University College London. He also gained further experience in the quaternary specialist centre at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore for complex orthopaedic pain conditions, and in particular post-operative persistent pain.
He works as a substantive consultant at Royal Berkshire Hospital since March 2022. He has published work in pain management and presented nationally and internationally. He also teaches on regional and national courses both in anaesthetic regional techniques and pain.
Dr Dhotarkar offers a holistic assessment of chronic pain conditions such as low back pain, nerve root pain, sciatica, neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndrome and fibromyalgia. He has special interest in persistent post-operative pain in knee, hip and shoulder joints and offers radiofrequency denervation procedures.
He believes that the best outcome for a chronic pain condition is through a holistic approach to individualized care and with multidisciplinary input. He also believes in early interventional approaches to prevent the chronicity of pain. He is also one of the few consultants actively involved in transitional pain service, which is developing rapidly in the UK. He frequently uses CUF (combined ultrasound and fluoroscopy) techniques for his pain procedures to increase the safety and benefits of the interventions.
Dr Dhotarkar is married, with 2 children. Outside work, he has interest in cricket and chess. He enjoys listening to music and travelling.
