About Rachana Prasad

Personal Profile

Dr Rachana Prasad is a Consultant Cardiologist based in Northamptonshire with extensive experience in diagnosing and managing a wide range of heart conditions. She has been awarded two Clinical Excellence Awards in recognition of her high standards of patient care and clinical contribution.

She has a busy NHS practice at Kettering General Hospital and also runs a private practice at Three Shires Hospital in Northampton, where she sees both self-pay and insured patients. Where appropriate, initial investigations such as electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, and heart rhythm monitoring can often be carried out during the first consultation, helping to provide quicker diagnosis and guide treatment decisions.

Training and experience

Dr Prasad qualified as a doctor from the University of Oxford. She began her cardiology training in 2006 and went on to complete six years of specialist training in all aspects of cardiology.
During this time, she developed particular expertise in cardiac device therapy, including pacemakers and advanced treatments for heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms. She trained at leading centres including Royal Papworth Hospital and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.

Between 2012 and 2013, she completed a fellowship at Morriston Hospital, a tertiary cardiac centre, where she gained further experience in advanced rhythm management and device therapy.
She was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust in 2013, where she developed heart failure and pacing services over a four-year period. In 2017, she joined Kettering General Hospital as a Consultant Cardiologist and continues to practise there.
