Professional Profile

Mr Charaklias has over two decades experience in the field of Ear Nose and Throat ( ENT) both in the UK and abroad. He is a substantive ENT consultant at East Lancashire NHS Trust (ELHT). He has a fellowship in the field of rhinology, which he completed in the Netherlands in 2015. He carries an evidence based scientific approach into his diagnosis and management of conditions of the Ear, Nose and Throat in adults.

He embraces innovation and leads on the use of minimally invasive surgical management of nasal obstruction, post nasal drip and snoring. The use of immunotherapy in treating allergic rhinitis (hay fever).

His areas of expertise include:

  1. Managing nasal obstruction - nasal polyps, deviated nasal septum, adenoidal hypertrophy, allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis.
  2. Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) - providing minimally invasive surgical management under local anaesthetic.
  3. Post nasal drip - providing both medical and surgical latest evidence based practice (cryotherapy – Clarifix).
  4. Allergic Rhinitis - use of immunotherapy and celon radiofrequency under LA for nasal congestion.

He is fully involved in research and has published in peer reviewed journals. He has completed two postgraduate degrees with the Universities of both Cranfield and Edge Hill. He is the clinical governance lead for ENT assuring that the gold standards of treatment are maintained. He is the educational and clinical supervisor of junior doctors 

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is a key priority for Mr Charaklias. Outside of work, he enjoys running and keeping fit. Has completed the six major marathons (awarded the six star medal in Boston 2023) and takes part in HYROX and Crossfit competitions.

He has also fundraised for the Wigan and Leigh Hospice and for Phab by running the London marathon.
