Muti is a member of the colorectal cancer multi-disciplinary team at CUH and the Colorectal Cancer Pathway Group of the Royal Marsden Partners (RMP) Accountable Cancer Network, a partnership of 10 NHS trusts in South and West London. He led the Colorectal Cancer MDT at CUH for 10 years until 2018 and chaired the Pathway Group for 5 years until 2020. Muti was also a member of the Clinical Board of the London Cancer Alliance until April 2016, the London Early Diagnosis Implementation Group and the Endoscopy Strategy Subgroup for London. Muti was director of cancer services at CUH for eight years, until August 2012. He is a past member of the London Zone Cancer Peer Review reference group, the cancer project Expert Reference Panel for Common Cancers and General Care, and the research and audit committee of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
He has a research interest in and has published on colorectal cancer and cancer genetics. Muti was chief investigator of the NICE FIT study and was central to the evidence used by NICE recommending use of FIT stool test in patients with symptoms to help identify patients at risk of colorectal cancer. This research won the Moynihan Medal from the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland prize in 2021.
