About Dr Monica Gupta

Personal Profile

Dr Monica Gupta is a Consultant General Paediatrician with over 27 years of experience within the NHS and is a Site Lead for Adolescent Mental Health pathways within secondary care. She is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and a Member of the Society of Lifestyle Medicine and serves on the Food and Health Council at the Royal Society of Medicine. Dr Gupta trained throughout teaching hospitals in London, Kent and Surrey and carried out clinical electives in Hong Kong and India.

In her clinical practice, she is a advocate for preventative and lifestyle medicine and is committed to raising awareness about how environmental factors influence health and early interventions can create lasting positive change. She works with families, as a health coach who are concerned with behaviours and habits such as excessive screen time, social media use, increasing consumption of ultra processed foods and plus diminishing outdoor childhood play, which are all contributing to long-term physical and mental health challenges in CYP. Dr Gupta holds a belief these trends can and must be addressed during childhood to foster healthier futures. She helps achieve this by structured coaching sessions alongside conventional medicine.

Her extensive clinical expertise spans all areas of general paediatrics, such as faltering growth, 'picky eaters', constipation, belly aches, headaches, food intolerances, oesophageal reflux, bedwetting, recurrent urine infections. She also has particular interest in Ambulatory Medicine, Paediatric Nephrology and Adolescent Mental Health. A key focus is keeping children out of hospital by promoting proactive health measures and empowering families with knowledge.

Beyond her clinical practice, she actively contributes to health promotion initiatives as part of a transformation group and community collaboration with parents groups and nurseries. In these roles, she leads health promotion initiatives and advocates for systemic change to improve child health outcomes. Her projects have included reducing tobacco use and youth vaping, improving childrens dental health, and encouraging healthier dietary habits and promote better futures for children. She is campaigning to embed ward based nutritionist within the NHS and has raised funds by doing a charity skydive towards this cause.

Dr Gupta is also an Advanced Paediatric Life support practitioner and a Mental Health communication simulation instructor. She also trains resident doctors and medical students as well as being an examiner on MRCPCH courses.
