Mr Mohammed Shaeir MB ChB, MSc, MRCS (Eng), FEBOT, FRCS (Tr & Orth) is a highly skilled Consultant Hip and Knee Revision Arthroplasty Surgeon at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in the treatment of hip and knee conditions, offering patients access to advanced surgical techniques and personalised care focused on achieving the best possible outcomes.
Following completion of his orthopaedic training, Mr Shaeir undertook extensive subspecialty fellowship training in hip and knee arthroplasty at two of the UK’s most prestigious centres: University College London Hospital/HCA International and the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre. Working alongside internationally renowned experts in hip and knee replacement surgery, he developed advanced expertise in both routine and highly complex joint reconstruction procedures.
Mr Shaeir's practice encompasses primary, complex primary, and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. He has a particular interest in the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) total hip replacement, including the cosmetic “bikini” incision technique. This muscle-sparing approach aims to minimise disruption to surrounding tissues, helping patients benefit from reduced post-operative pain, quicker recovery, improved early mobility, and a discreet, aesthetically favourable scar.
In addition to his expertise in anterior hip replacement surgery, Mr Shaeir has extensive experience in robotic-assisted joint replacement, utilising state-of-the-art technologies including MAKO®, CORI® and NAVIO® systems to support precise implant positioning and personalised surgical planning. His specialist interests also include revision arthroplasty, soft-tissue knee surgery and the treatment of periprosthetic fractures, providing comprehensive care for patients with both straightforward and complex orthopaedic conditions.
Mr Shaeir’s wider orthopaedic background includes advanced training in limb reconstruction, deformity correction, and pelvic and acetabular trauma surgery. He further strengthened this expertise through completion of a Professional Diploma in Limb Reconstruction Surgery, enabling him to manage a broad range of complex musculoskeletal disorders.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Shaeir maintains a strong academic and educational commitment. He contributes to multicentre clinical research studies, publishes in leading peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals, and regularly presents his work at national and international meetings, including the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) congress. He is also actively involved in teaching medical students, specialist trainees and fellows, while leading quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient pathways and clinical outcomes.
Mr Shaeir is dedicated to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care. Through meticulous surgical technique, innovative treatment approaches and a commitment to clear communication, he strives to help every patient regain mobility, reduce pain and return confidently to their daily activities.
