Mr Mohamed Abdelrahman Abdalla is a Consultant Neurosurgeon and Complex Spine Surgeon at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, a leading regional centre for advanced spinal care. He is dual trained in neurosurgery and orthopaedic spine surgery, giving him a unique ability to manage conditions affecting both the neural structures and the mechanical integrity of the spine. His practice focuses on complex degenerative spinal conditions, including multi-level stenosis, cervical myelopathy, disc prolapse, spondylolisthesis, and revision spinal surgery.
He has particular expertise in anterolateral spinal approaches, allowing safe and precise access to the cervical and thoracolumbar spine for complex degenerative, deformity, and oncological procedures. He also utilises minimally invasive spinal techniques, where appropriate, to reduce tissue disruption, postoperative pain, and recovery time. His surgical repertoire includes decompression, instrumented fusion, vertebral augmentation, management of spinal fractures, and treatment of spinal tumours, as well as urgent spinal care for conditions such as cauda equina syndrome or acute neurological deterioration.
Mr Abdalla graduated with Excellence and Honours from Menoufia Faculty of Medicine (Egypt) in 2004 and completed a Master of Science in Surgery with Excellence. He holds Membership and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, as well as the AO Spine Global Spine Diploma, reflecting advanced international training in spinal surgery. Academically, he has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and regularly presents at national and international spine conferences, ensuring that his practice remains at the forefront of evidence-based spinal care.
He is committed to patient-centred care, providing clear explanations of diagnoses and treatment options. Shared decision-making is central to his approach, ensuring that patients understand both surgical and non-surgical strategies, the expected outcomes, and recovery pathway. By combining dual specialist training, advanced surgical techniques, and extensive experience in complex spinal disease, Mr Abdalla delivers comprehensive, precise, and safe spinal care tailored to the needs of each patient.
He combines dual specialist training in neurosurgery and orthopaedic spine surgery with evidence-based practice and advanced surgical techniques to provide precise, personalised, and outcome-focused care.
