Dr Mark Weatherall is a highly experienced Consultant Neurologist at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, specialising in headache disorders, facial pain, and a wide range of neurological conditions. He also works in private practice at The Chiltern Hospital, providing expert assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with complex neurological symptoms.

He has a particular international reputation in the field of headache medicine. Dr Weatherall has previously served as Chair of the British Association for the Study of Headache and Trustee of The Migraine Trust. He is currently President-Elect of the World Headache Society and sits on the medical advisory board of the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association. These roles reflect his leading contribution to improving the understanding and treatment of headache and facial pain disorders worldwide.

Dr Weatherall studied clinical medicine at the University of Cambridge, following an earlier career as a respected historian of medicine. He completed junior medical training in Cambridge, London, and Oxford, before undertaking specialist neurology training in the North-West of England. He also completed a clinical research fellowship with Professor Peter Goadsby and Dr Holger Kaube at the Headache Group, Institute of Neurology in London, one of the leading centres for headache research.

He is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh, recognising his advanced training and professional contribution to neurology.

Over the past 15 years, Dr Weatherall has helped introduce and develop modern headache treatments, including Botox, occipital nerve blocks, CGRP monoclonal antibodies, and newer therapies known as gepants. He has also contributed to national clinical pathway development for patients with headache and facial pain, helping improve access to specialist care across the UK.

He has played an important role in advancing neurological care systems, including involvement in the development of coordinated stroke services in London and ongoing work within TIA (transient ischaemic attack) services at Wycombe General Hospital.

Since 2019, he has also been involved in specialist neurological assessment for medicinal cannabis treatment through Curaleaf Clinic London (formerly Sapphire Medical Clinics), contributing to clinical research in this emerging area of medicine.

Dr Weatherall is actively involved in medical education and training for students, doctors, and healthcare professionals. He is known for delivering clear, engaging teaching sessions that are highly valued by learners across different levels of experience.

He is also the author of Living with Headache (2024), a practical and accessible guide designed to help patients, carers, and healthcare professionals better understand headache disorders and their management.
