About Mr Marc James Hallam

Personal Profile

Mr Marc-James Hallam is a fully accredited Consultant in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery, and a proud member of BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons). He offers a wide range of surgical procedures, each carefully tailored to meet the unique needs of his patients.

Mr Hallam works at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he is the clinical lead for the plastic surgery department. He’s also a clinical lecturer at Aberdeen University Medical School, actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students as well as supervising several academic projects. Over the years, he has supervised numerous academic projects and published more than 30 research articles and textbook chapters where his work has been presented at major international surgical conferences.

His training in plastic surgery began in London, primarily at the renowned Queen Victoria Hospital, where he trained under world-leading plastic & reconstructive surgeons. He later completed a two-year research fellowship at the McIndoe Surgical Centre, conducting a randomised controlled trial into the development of a novel anti-scarring treatment for use in breast surgery. This research earned him an MD (Res) from Imperial College London and led to several international publications on scar reduction and healing. He continued to maintain  a keen interest in minimising scarring and optimising healing in his patients.

After his research, Mr Hallam moved to Scotland to continue his training in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, covering the full spectrum of plastic and aesthetic surgery. He earned his FRCS (Plast) and completed his training. He then worked as a locum consultant in Aberdeen and Dundee and completed a fellowship at The Christie Hospital in Manchester - Europe’s largest cancer centre - where he gained extensive experience in resection and reconstruction of complex skin, sarcoma, and breast cancer cases.

Today, Mr Hallam is back in Aberdeen in a permanent consultant role. His main areas of expertise include microsurgical breast reconstruction and complex skin cancer management. He also handles a wide variety of plastic surgery cases, often collaborates with other specialists to manage challenging cases. He is passionate about improving patient outcomes through quality improvement and enhanced recovery programs.

Mr Hallam believes that the best surgical results come from truly understanding each patient. He takes the time to carefully assess and consult with every individual, ensuring that treatments are personalised and that patients receive full support throughout their recovery.
