About Manoj Sood

Personal Profile

Mr Sood is a leading Specialist Hip and Knee Surgeon who treats all Hip and Knee conditions and Sports injuries. He has been a Specialist Consultant since 2004, and has trained internationally, including in Centres of Excellence in North America (The Mayo Clinic, USA and Mount Sinai Hospital,Toronto).

He is recognised as a Top Doctor by his peers and is proud to have been awarded both the iWantGreatCare Certificate of Excellence in 2021 for delivering outstanding care and the Top Doctors Certificate of Excellence in 2020 for his high patient ratings. He has also been recognised by his NHS Trust by the award of 3 Clinical Excellence awards.

He is known to be a hugely experienced doctor and a clear communicator. He believes in offering his patients individualised and excellent care with an emphasis on precise diagnosis and jargon-free explanations about their conditions.  His wide experience means that he can deal with less common problems and can offer a wide range of treatment options tailored to each patient including those not involving surgery. Patients can rest assured that, from their very first appointment, Mr Sood and his expert practice team will make the experience as efficient and smooth as possible and are always on hand to deal with any questions.

Mr Sood believes passionately in reconstructing and repairing native joints and in biological treatments to prolong the life of joints rather than moving straight to joint replacement. When this is not possible, and the damage is too severe, he is an expert hip and knee replacement surgeon with excellent patient outcomes and feedback. He has a referral practice deals with the most complex and challenging cases including replacements that have failed and need to be re-done.

Mr Sood qualified at Guys Hospital in London in 1992 and trained at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in Stanmore where he was appointed Clinical Lecturer to the Professorial Unit.

He undertook higher training in Hip and Knee Surgery in two centres of excellence in North America in 2004, where he trained under two of the best hip and knee surgeons in the world. At the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, he worked with Dr Dan Berry and at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto with Prof Alan Gross.

He currently has an NHS appointment at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Bedford Hospital site) where he is the Senior Consultant and Leads a Hip & Knee Unit dealing with the whole spectrum of cases.

Mr Sood treats all lower limb Sports injuries in athletes and weekend warriors and has an interest in the treatment of Tendon Pain especially Tendinopathies. He has extensive experience in knee Arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, Cartilage Regeneration techniques and Hip and Knee replacement (including revision and complex cases). He has excellent patient outcomes and a very low rate of complications, which is reflected in his outcomes on The National Joint Registry.

Mr Sood regularly publishes research papers on aspects of hip and knee surgery including new surgical techniques. He has also designed a special instrument for use in revision hip surgery that is in common use in the UK.

Mr Sood is also involved in the training of the next generation of surgeons. He is an undergraduate Surgical Tutor in Orthopaedics at the Clinical School of Medicine University of Cambridge and also regularly teaches postgraduate surgical trainees. He lectures regularly and this includes invited lectures at conferences.

Outside of work he enjoys classic cars, playing golf infrequently (and badly) and playing the drums.
