Mr Akbari is a highly experienced Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI), Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgeon at The Meriden Hospital, specialising in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic surgery.
He provides expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of upper gastrointestinal conditions, including oesophago-gastric cancer, acid reflux, hiatus hernia, and complex digestive disorders. He also specialises in bariatric (weight loss) surgery and revisional procedures, as well as general surgery such as gallbladder removal and hernia repair.
Mr Akbari trained at the University of Southampton and completed his higher surgical training in the prestigious Oxford Deanery. He further advanced his expertise through a Royal College of Surgeons fellowship in minimally invasive and robotic UGI surgery. He is particularly recognised for managing complex and re-operative cases using the latest surgical techniques.
At the heart of his practice is a personalised, patient-centred approach—focusing on clear communication, tailored treatment plans, and faster recovery through minimally invasive methods. He works closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure every patient receives the highest standard of safe, evidence-based care.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Akbari plays an active role in surgical education and training, supporting the development of future surgeons across the UK.
