About Kaushik Sanyal

Personal Profile

Dr Kaushik Sanyal is a Consultant Rheumatologist specialising in inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases, crystal arthritis and soft tissue conditions. He has particular interest in early inflammatory arthritis. 

He received his higher specialist training in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine on the South Thames (Guy’s and St. Thomas’, and St. George’s) rotation. He has been trained under eminent professors in a specialist Lupus unit (St. Thomas’ Hospital), RA Centre (Guy’s Hospital), and the Hotung Musculoskeletal Centre (St. George’s Hospital).

He was awarded the prestigious British Society of Rheumatology National Travelling Fellowship in 2013, and then again in 2014. He undertook his fellowship together with renowned rheumatologists at University College London, Great Ormond Street and the Royal Free Hospital. He combines a busy clinical practice in all four hospitals in Worthing, Chichester, Shoreham and Bognor with a strong interest in medical education. He has taught students from GSTT and King’s College Medical School, and Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Along with clinical practice, Dr Sanyal’s research interests focus on inflammatory arthritis.

He has presented his Master’s research project on inflammatory arthritis and immunodeficiency state. He has published various case reports and clinical audits in peer reviewed journals. He is the reviewer of various international and national specialist journals.

As part of Dr Sanyal’s continuous development he has completed the following:

• Postgraduate Certif. in Medical Leadership, Royal College of Physician London and University of London 
• Postgraduate Certif. in Clinical Education, Kings College London 

Dr Sanyal is actively involved in Service development in Fast Track Giant Cell Arteritis Clinic and One stop Musculoskeletal Ultrasound clinic to diagnose and treat early inflammatory arthritis in Western Sussex area. He is also involved in Undergraduate and post Graduate teaching. He has also held the position of Sub Dean Kings College Medical School for over four years, and also taken up responsibility of Undergraduate Medical School students Brighton as Personal Tutor. He regularly participates in GP teaching in the region.
