Mr Malik graduated from Rawalpindi Medical College, Rawalpindi, Pakistan in 2003 and had his initial training in Pakistan. He received his Fellowship of college of physicians and surgeons of Pakistan (FCPS) in 2009.He moved to U.K and completed his higher surgical training in Northwest, UK. He has keen interest in minimally invasive colorectal surgery and completed a fellowship training in MIS & advanced rectal cancer surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital which is part of University Hospitals of Birmingham. He also gained experience in complex hernia repairs.
Mr Malik is an experienced colorectal and general surgeon with a specialist interest in minimally invasive surgery including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He performs laparoscopic colonic and rectal surgery for bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and coloproctological conditions. He has extensive experience in performing laparoscopic groin and ventral hernias repair, abdominal wall reconstruction and laparoscopic gallbladder surgery.
He is also JAG accredited GI endoscopist.
Mr Malik has a strong interest in surgical research and teaching and has published over 45 peer-reviewed articles in various medical journals. His area of special interest in research involves use of latest technologies in healthcare settings. Currently he is the principal investigator of studies which are looking at use of AI in endoscopy. He also presented at various national and international scientific meetings.
Mr Malik is Clinical service lead for Colon Capsule Endoscopy which involves a tiny capsule camera which travels down into the intestines – filming all the way – and can help detect bleeding, bowel cancer and help diagnose other inflammatory conditions. He was interviewed by BBC Northampton to share his early experience of the service.
