Dr Winter is a Consultant Cardiologist and has gained a wealth of experience in general cardiology, specialising in coronary angioplasty and stenting. In 2011, he helped to establish the coronary angioplasty (PCI) service in Huddersfield and Calderdale and performed one of the first angioplasty and stenting procedures at Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax.
Originally from Somerset, Dr Winter studied at Leeds Medical School, graduating in 1995. He successfully completed his general medical training rotating through posts at hospitals within Leeds and both West and North Yorkshire. During this period of training, he gained experience in accident and emergency, cardiology, renal medicine, diabetes, stroke, gastroenterology and elderly care.
In 1999, Dr Winter completed the professional diploma examination for membership to the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). He then undertook a 2 year period of research at the Molecular Vascular Unit at the University of Leeds obtaining a Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) examining the role of genetics and specific genetic abnormalities in the development of coronary artery disease. He has published journal articles and presented at national meetings on this topic, as well as publishing written reviews concerned with best clinical practice in the field of coronary angioplasty.
As an area of specialist interest, he enhanced his training in coronary angioplasty and stenting (PCI) when he obtained a Senior Interventional Fellow position at a main cardiac centre in Sydney, Australia. He was responsible for managing the training of the junior cardiology trainees in coronary angiography and contributed to the emergency angioplasty service to treat heart attacks. Dr Winter was the Clinical Lead for PCI and Clinical Governance at Calderdale Royal Hospital between 2018 and 2023.
At Huddersfield Private Hospital, Dr Winter treats all heart related problems, hypertension (high blood pressure) and can provide advice on prevention such as lowering cholesterol and making healthier lifestyle choices. He has access to all recognised cardiac diagnostic testing (invasive and non-invasive), depending on your symptoms and wherever possible will discuss your preferred options with you. Common cardiac symptoms requiring investigation and management include chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness and collapse.
Dr Winter will accept bookings from self-funding and insured patients; no GP referral is required before booking.
