Dr Jideofor O Menakaya is an experienced Consultant Neonatal and General Paediatrician in London and Middlesex. Jide was appointed a Consultant Paediatrician with Interest in Neonatology in 2003 after Specialist Training in General Paediatrics and Neonatal Medicine in London, Hampshire, West Midlands, and Australia. In 2007, he was appointed Honorary Consultant Paediatrician in Paediatric Gastroenterology at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London.
He was formerly the Clinical Lead for Neonatal Services at Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Lead Paediatrician at The Bishops Wood Hospital, Northwood Middlesex. He is the currently the Lead Paediatrician for Paediatric Gastroenterology at Hillingdon Hospital and in 2019, established The PURA service, a grant funded quality improvement clinical project investigating effective multi-disciplinary team management of childhood constipation and encopresis.
Dr Menakaya specialises in the assessment and management of all aspects of general and neonatal paediatric disorders including specific expertise in constipation and soiling, functional gastrointestinal disorders in children, abdominal pain in children, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, child-hood nutritional disorders particularly faltering growth or obesity, micronutrient deficiency, childhood immunisation and.
conditions affecting new-born babies and infants in the first year of life.
He has a passion for promoting the health of all children and will work with children and their families in a holistic way to ensure that they return to full health as quickly as possible
In addition to his clinical duties as a consultant paediatrician, his other roles include his work as a quality improvement in healthcare practitioner, a clinical researcher, a medical educator, a mentor for post graduate doctors, trainer of healthcare professionals in resource poor settings around the world, a UK Resuscitation Council Instructor on Newborn Life Support, a Provider of Advanced Paediatric Life Support and a Neonatal Simulation Facilitator. His team was a finalist in the Quality Improvement Team of the Year Category at the prestigious 2021 BMJ Awards for Healthcare. He has published several papers on paediatric and neonatal medicine and has lectured at many venues around the world.
He is a Trustee of ORCHYD, a Charity for Disabled Children, The Early Intervention Foundation, a government funded Research Charity, and a School Governor
In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, running, choral singing and travelling. He is married and lives in London with his wife and two children.
