Having grown up locally in Surrey and attended school in the Croydon area, Dr Dhoat attended St Georges Hospital Medical School, London for his medical undergraduate training before qualifying in 1992, and has trained in a number of specialities including general medicine, surgery and vascular medicine, accident and emergency, elderly care, paediatrics and neonatology, and obstetrics and gynaecology, before completing his training as a General Practitioner in 1996.

Dr Dhoat has been committed to helping to develop improved care and local pathways for many of the residents and patients within the NHS locally through his previous roles and work with the Croydon Primary Care Group (PCG) board and more recently with supporting delivery of care within the Croydon North Primary Care Network (PCN) in the north of the borough, as well as through his representation for local GP colleagues for over 20 years on the Croydon Local Medical Committee in helping to work and coordinate with local hospitals and care commissioners in planning for provision of services and contracts.

Through his other previous roles and experience as an undergraduate tutor to medical students from both St Georges Hospital Medical School and Kings College London, a GP trainer to doctors in general practice training schemes under the London Deanery from 2008 until 2022, and his continued role as an appraiser to GP colleagues practising in the South London area, he has been committed to helping to try and support and ensure that both the current and next generation of doctors are best placed to deliver the high levels of care required for their patients through supporting their continued professional development and standards and working towards their revalidation.

With over 30 years of experience working within healthcare and 26 years as an NHS GP principal locally he has a wealth of knowledge in dealing with a vast multitude of health problems from acute illnesses and advice about general health promotion and wellbeing to the management of chronic health problems such as hypertension, heart disease, asthma and COPD and diabetes, as well as being able to advise and support with common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. He has a particular interest in cardiology and heart disease, musculoskeletal problems, men’s health, and health promotion and screening.

Dr Dhoat is passionate about providing a friendly personalised and accessible care approach to all his patients and encouraging an active engagement and understanding in dealing with the medical concerns they may have and aims through the private GP service at Shirley Oaks to provide them with fast access to the care they may need, including to any necessary investigations such as blood tests and imaging or onward referral to one of our many highly skilled specialists who he works in close association with; or alternatively if needed with recommendations for your further care to your NHS GP. His main focus is very much to be able to work together with you in order to fully listen to and understand the health concerns you may have and to try to ensure a positive patient experience and improved well-being as a result.
