About Dr James David Shutt
Personal Profile
Dr Shutt has received a broad training in gastroenterology and hepatology in the Wessex region, with specialised training in upper gastrointestinal tract disease and nutrition. His research interests are in Barrett's oesophagus, and he leads the nutrition support team at Dorset County Hospital.
Dr Shutt is an excellent endoscopist, offering upper GI endoscopy with therapeutic dilatations, variceal banding and stent insertion, as well as colonoscopy and polypectomy. Indeed, his audited caecal and terminal ileal intubation rates are well above average, with no significant complications to date.
Dr James Shutt was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust in 2009. He qualified in 1998 from the University of Southampton Medical School, with a first-class honours intercalated BSc. He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2001, training as a specialist in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine in the Wessex region over the next seven years.
