Mr James Corbett is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in knee conditions. He works at the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust in Bury St Edmunds and also sees patients privately at St. Edmunds Hospital. His approach combines the latest surgical techniques with a personalised focus, aiming to reduce pain, improve mobility, and help patients return to the activities they love. Areas of Specialisation Mr. Corbett has a particular interest in modern, evidence-based approaches to knee surgery, including: Knee Preservation Surgery: Using advanced keyhole (arthroscopic) techniques and osteotomy procedures to realign and preserve damaged joints, helping patients avoid or delay joint replacement. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: Using patient-centred techniques to restore stability and return to sport. Partial (Unicompartmental) Knee Replacement: Offering targeted treatment for arthritis in a single area of the knee, often with faster recovery times. Total Knee Replacement: When the damage in the joint is severe, performing total knee replacement drawing on experience of personalised alignment strategies to tailor the joint replacement to the individual rather than a standardised approach. Mr. Corbett is passionate about individualised care and works closely with each patient to develop a treatment plan that suits their specific condition, lifestyle, and goals. Training and Experience Mr. Corbett completed his orthopaedic training in the East of England before being selected for the BOA Future Leaders Programme in Knee Surgery, based in Cardiff. He went on to complete two highly regarded international fellowships in Australia: Sports Knee Surgery Fellowship with Dr Justin Roe at NSOMSC, Sydney. Robotic Knee Surgery Fellowship with Dr Samuel MacDessi in Sydney. These experiences provided in-depth exposure to advanced knee reconstruction and joint replacement techniques, including work with
elite athletes and complex cases. Academic Contributions Mr. Corbett has published extensively in international, peer-reviewed journals, with a particular focus on alignment in knee replacement surgery. He regularly attends and presents at international conferences to remain at the forefront of evolving techniques and technologies in orthopaedics. He is an active member of both the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Association for Surgeons of the Knee (BASK). Commitment to Education In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Corbett is dedicated to training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. He supervises trainee surgeons and contributes to regional surgical training programmes and committees.
