Hugh Mostafid qualified from St Thomas's Hospital London in 1989 and trained at Guy's Hospital and the Institute of Urology in London.
He obtained his MSc in Urology from the University of London in 1996 and won the William Cook travelling fellowship to visit the University of Southern California, a world-renowned centre of excellence for bladder cancer.
He was appointed as a consultant urologist in Basingstoke in 2001 and in 2014 moved to the Royal Surrey Hospital as consultant urologist to join the NHS regional bladder cancer service which covers a population of 2 million.
In 2014, he was a visiting scholar at the University of California in Los Angeles to learn bladder cancer surgery techniques. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey.
His main clinical interests are bladder cancer, prostate enlargement, stone disease and urinary tract infection.
He is a founder member and past Chair of Action on Bladder Cancer UK, a charity which was set up to raise funds for bladder cancer research and improve patient outcomes in the UK. He is also a past member of the NICE bladder cancer guidelines group and a current member of the European Association of Urology guidelines panel on bladder cancer and an advisor on bladder cancer to NICE. He is Chief Investigator or co-applicant in over £5 million of national and international bladder cancer trials and has published over 100 papers and written book chapters on as well as being an invited speaker at national and international meetings on bladder cancer.
