Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon

About Mr Harry Benjamin-Laing

Personal Profile

Mr. Harry Benjamin-Laing is a Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon at Milton Keynes University Hospital, specialising in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of a wide range of hand and wrist conditions, including injuries, arthritis, nerve compression, and tendon problems. He is known for his patient-centred approach, focusing on relieving pain, restoring function, and improving quality of life.

He qualified as a Doctor in 2007, and completed his specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery on the North West Mersey Rotation. He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2022, marking the culmination of over a decade of surgical training.

Following completion of his training, Mr. Benjamin-Laing spent time at the prestigious UCLH Hand Unit at University College London Hospitals, gaining experience managing complex, high-volume hand and wrist cases, including patients with carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist fractures, thumb arthritis, and nerve or tendon injuries.

He was then selected for an advanced fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, an internationally recognised centre of excellence in orthopaedic surgery. There, he developed further expertise in minimally invasive wrist surgery, joint replacement, ligament repairs, and complex nerve decompression procedures.

Mr. Benjamin-Laing regularly treats patients with:

  • Wrist pain
  • Hand and finger injuries
  • Tendonitis or trigger finger
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Dupuytren’s contracture
  • Arthritis of the thumb, fingers, or wrist
  • Sports injuries to the hand or wrist
  • Nerve and tendon problems

In addition to his clinical work, he is passionate about medical education and the training of future surgeons. He has contributed to numerous scientific publications, surgical textbooks, and regularly presents at national and international conferences. He is also the founder of Orthom8, a popular educational YouTube platform supporting orthopaedic trainees preparing for their surgical exams.

His leadership has been recognised through selection for the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Future Leaders Programme, and he has been awarded the Frostick Foundation Grant for his contributions to orthopaedic education.

He is currently the Social Media Editor for the European Journal of Hand Surgery (JHS-E) and a member of the FESSH Journal Committee, helping to shape the future of academic publishing in hand surgery across Europe.

Mr. Benjamin-Laing believes in clear communication, individualised treatment plans, and minimally invasive techniques where appropriate. Whether a patient is dealing with long-term arthritis, recovering from a fall or fracture, or struggling with numbness and tingling in the hand, his goal is always to provide the most effective, personalised care.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends and staying active through a lifelong love of sport and outdoor activities.
