Mr Hany Nada is a highly accomplished Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon currently based at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London. With an extensive clinical background spanning over 15 years, Mr Nada specializes in the management of complex colorectal pathologies, advanced abdominal wall reconstruction, and emergency general surgery. His practice is defined by a commitment to minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery, aimed at optimizing patient recovery and oncological outcomes.  

Academic Background and Qualifications 

Mr Nada’s surgical foundation is built upon a rigorous academic trajectory. He earned his primary medical degree (MBBS) from Cairo University in 2002. He subsequently pursued advanced academic research, obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) in Surgical Oncology in 2009, followed by a PhD in Surgical Oncology from Cairo University in 2018. His professional excellence was further cemented by attaining the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) of England in 2010 and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in General Surgery in 2020.  

Clinical Training and Experience 

Mr Nada has completed several prestigious fellowships and senior registrar posts across leading NHS institutions. His specialist training includes: 

- Advanced Colorectal Fellowship: Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (2021–2023).  
- Senior Registrar in Colorectal & General Surgery: Dartford & Gravesham NHS FT (2016–2020).  
- Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship: Colchester Hospital FT (2015–2016).  
- Senior Clinical Fellowship: Royal Free Hospital (2013–2015).  
- Specialist Registrar: National Cancer Institute (NCI), Cairo (2008–2013).  

Leadership and Teaching 

Beyond the operating theatre, Mr Nada holds significant leadership responsibilities. He serves as the Surgical Lead for the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) at St George’s. He is deeply involved in clinical governance, having led quality improvement projects focused on consent standardization and emergency surgery pathways.  

As a dedicated educator, he is a member of the Faculty for the Royal College of Surgeons, teaching Basic Surgical Skills. He also serves as faculty for laparoscopic skills courses at the Guy's and St Thomas’ Simulation Centre and provides regular supervision and training for medical students and surgical trainees (FY/CT).

Mr Nada is a contributor to surgical literature, with publications in The Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the International Surgery Journal. He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI), the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP), and the British Medical Association (BMA).

Mr Nada maintains a comprehensive scope of practice, covering both elective and emergency interventions. His expertise is categorized into several core pillars:

  • Colorectal and Bowel Surgery: He provides specialized care for benign and malignant conditions, performing colorectal cancer resections through open, laparoscopic, and robotic approaches. His work includes complex Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) surgery for Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, as well as salvage surgery for recurrent rectal cancer. He is proficient in a full range of bowel resections, colectomies, and stoma management.
  • Abdominal Wall Reconstruction (AWR) and Hernia SurgeryMr Nada is an expert in managing primary and recurrent hernias (inguinal, femoral, umbilical, and incisional). He performs complex abdominal wall reconstructions utilizing component separation techniques (including TAR) and mesh-based repairs to treat significant abdominal wall defects.
  • Proctology and Pelvic FloorHis clinical activity includes the treatment of haemorrhoids (utilizing HALO, THD, and RFA), anal fissures, and complex anal fistulae (VAAFT, LIFT, and Fistula Plug). He also manages pelvic floor disorders such as rectal prolapse and obstructed defecation.
  • General Surgery and Endoscopy: Mr Nada performs a high volume of laparoscopic cholecystectomies, appendicectomies, and emergency laparotomies. He is also a skilled endoscopist, providing diagnostic colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
