About Mr Greg Tanos

Personal Profile

Mr Greg Tanos is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon working both within the NHS and in private practice. His specialist interests include breast reconstruction, the treatment of skin lesions and skin cancer, and body-contouring surgery.

Originally from Greece, Mr Tanos completed his medical degree at the University of Athens in 2002. As a student, he received first prize in a national chemistry competition during his A-level examinations and went on to represent Greece at the 27th International Chemistry
Olympiad in Beijing, China.

After graduating, he undertook a comprehensive six-year training programme in Plastic Surgery in Athens. During this time, he trained in major oncological centres, gaining extensive experience in skin cancer management, breast cancer reconstruction, body contouring procedures and aesthetic surgery.

He subsequently achieved the European Diploma in Plastic Surgery in Brussels and Munich and joined the UK General Medical Council Specialist Register as a Plastic Surgery specialist.

Mr Tanos expanded his expertise through roles across several UK units, completing senior fellowships in Preston and Sheffield, and undertaking a prestigious microvascular breast reconstruction fellowship in Bristol, where he also completed a cosmetic fellowship in the private sector.

In 2016, he was awarded the FRCS (Plast) diploma and was appointed as a Consultant in Plymouth, focusing on breast reconstruction.

Since 2017, he has been a substantive Consultant at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, specialising in breast reconstruction
and skin cancer surgery.

Mr Tanos recently presented an audit of his first 200 free DIEP flap breast reconstructions, demonstrating excellent outcomes with high success rates, low complication rates and minimal unplanned returns to theatre.

The reconstructive options he offers include free DIEP flaps from the abdomen, pedicled latissimus dorsi (LD) flaps, and implant-based
reconstruction.

His practice also encompasses high-volume breast-contouring procedures,
including breast reduction, mastopexy (breast uplift), augmentation with silicone implants, correction of congenital breast asymmetry, lipomodelling and liposuction.

A leading specialist in skin cancer management, Mr Tanos performs a wide range of procedures, including excision of skin lesions, lipomas and melanomas, sentinel lymph node biopsies of the head and neck, trunk and limbs, and lymphadenectomy of the axilla or groin for metastatic melanoma or non-melanoma skin cancer.

He is the Skin Cancer Lead for the Plastic Surgery Department at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and serves as a core
member—and current Chair—of the Specialist Skin MDT.

Mr Tanos served as Clinical Lead for the Plastic Surgery Department at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust for three years, including during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. His leadership contributed to the development of a modernised skin cancer pathway for NHS
referrals and the establishment of the Amersham Skin Centre.

A dedicated medical educator, he mentors doctors in training and actively promotes awareness of breast reconstruction within the community. He regularly participates in educational training and remains fully compliant with annual appraisals and GMC revalidation.

Mr Tanos is consistently praised by patients for his kindness, communication and supportive approach, as well as for the high quality of his surgical outcomes—particularly in breast reconstruction and skin cancer treatment.
