Mr Greg Pearson is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. He endeavours to provide a leading gynaecological service, with an emphasis on being approachable and offering clear explanations for your health concerns in understandable, non-medical language.

Greg was delighted to be appointed as Consultant in 2017 at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. He has been the Clinical Lead for Gynaecology since 2021. He sees and treats women from across the Wessex region including Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset.

Since his appointment he has developed an extensive practice in:

• Diagnosis and treatment of irregular bleeding and menstrual disorders or pain e.g. Endometriosis, heavy periods, PCOS, ovarian cysts – minimally invasive keyhole surgery (laparoscopy), hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation, non hormonal and hormonal treatments
• Diagnosis and treatment of prolapse, non surgical and surgical options e.g. pelvic floor repair, hysterectomy, or pessaries
• Menopause and perimenopause problems such as irregular bleeding, HRT optimisation, postmenopausal bleeding, ovarian cysts and investigations for women concerned they may have cancer
• Diagnosis and treatment of fibroids and ovarian cysts
• Cervical smear taking and colposcopy, plus minimally invasive surgery for cervical precancer, with local or general anaesthetic treatments
• Advice and investigations around conceiving, fertility and female sterilisation

Greg focusses on a high quality patient experience. He trained in and practices ‘enhanced recovery’ techniques from surgery to ensure women are well to return home as soon as possible after treatments. He has given talks to other NHS Trusts on his experience of this.

Greg graduated in Medicine from Oxford in 2007. During his studies Greg undertook advanced study in the physiology of fertility, the reproductive cycle and birth, which enthused him to continue a career in Gynaecological Surgery. He undertook research in Caesarean Section, and projects in Endometriosis in the Oxford professorial unit, wining Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist’s Prizes.

His postgraduate gynaecological surgical training was undertaken across the South West. During this time Greg undertook extensive training including with past Presidents of the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (with a focus on endometriosis, management of cysts, keyhole techniques and hysterectomy) and the British Gynaecological Cancer Society to count towards his Advanced training certificate in Gynaecological Cancer.

As Greg realised he aspired to practice across the breadth of the specialty, he also undertook extensive training in prolapse repair, including in caring for these women with ‘enhanced recovery’ and minimising their hospital stay. During his postgraduate training he gained a distinction in his Masters in Reproduction and Development, including a research pilot studies investigating causes of pelvic pain in women. He has published articles in The Lancet, medical journals, presented his work at conferences internationally, and featured in The Times and on local and regional media. 

A keen teacher, he also has led the education of Southampton University medical students in his department. He lectures undergraduates and graduates, and was an editor for the Royal College of Gynaecologist’s postgraduate training education programme.

Greg is delighted to now be offering the opportunity for patients to consult him in private practice, in the modern and comfortable surroundings of Sarum Road Hospital. By consulting him privately, Greg hopes to provide his patients with an enhanced service where they can ensure continuity of care with the same doctor, with more time to explore treatment options and what they mean, and follow-up of a much more personalised approach than the confines of the NHS can provide. He is happy to give second opinions for women who wish to discuss their care and health options with an independent practitioner.

Outside of medicine, Greg enjoys the outdoor opportunities Wiltshire and the West Country can provide. A family man, he will frequently be found supporting his daughter at her myriad sporting commitments, and keeps himself fit and relaxed through swimming, country and costal walks with Pudding, the family Yorkshire Terrier. He has volunteered for community projects, with an emphasis on health and wellbeing.

Private Patient Administrator: Louise Ellis BSc RM, 07568 193180. Louise has worked in administrative roles in the NHS since 2004. She trained as a midwife and practices clinically across primary and secondary care settings.  Louise will ensure patients gain timely results and have a point of contact in the event of queries.
