Mr Datta gained experience in managing bone and soft tissue sarcoma as well as tertiary referrals for complex hip and knee pathology during this one year fellowship. He also built experience in the use of massive endoprosthesis in tumour surgery and for failed primary and revision arthroplasty. Mr Datta performed numerous cartilage transplants in this unit.
During this fellowship, at the UK's largest centre for pelvic and acetabular trauma, Mr Datta gaining experience in the management of these complex fractures, as well as working in a level 1 trauma centre.
In addition to this Mr Datta is the sarcoma lead at University Hospital Southampton, assessing and treating patients with secondary bone cancers. He also treat patients requiring complex pelvic and acetabular reconstructive surgery – frequently this will involve some form of hip replacement surgery.
Mr Datta provides innovative treatments to patients including using the patient’s own cells to treat cartilage damage and undertake hip joint preserving surgery (hip keyhole surgery).
He is actively involved in research having completed my doctorate of medicine (MD) research degree at Imperial College London and has numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and is actively involved in academic research – Mr Datta has ran seven clinical trials in the NHS.
Mr Datta has an active research interest in using biological treatments to preserve one’s own joint.
