Professor Georgios (George) A. Antoniou is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon based in Manchester, UK, and holds an Honorary Clinical Chair at the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC), University of Manchester.

Professor Antoniou has been awarded Clinical Excellence Awards by the NHS organisations in which he has worked, reflecting the strength of his clinical practice and consistently excellent outcomes, as demonstrated in national audits. He combines an extensive clinical practice with an active academic career and undertakes full-time clinical work in both the NHS and private sector, delivering comprehensive vascular services across the full spectrum of the specialty.

Professor Antoniou is an internationally recognised expert in vascular and endovascular surgery, with a particular academic focus on evidence synthesis, clinical practice guideline development, and aortic aneurysm research.

Professor Antoniou is the principal investigator (PI) for several National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) clinical studies and has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed publications, which have accrued over 16000 citations. Several of his articles in the European Journal of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery have been selected as Editor’s Choice, and he has received recognition from the Journal of Vascular Surgery for highly cited work.

Professor Antoniou serves on several national and international scientific committees including:

He is the co-ordinator of the ESVS Guidelines on Acute Limb Ischaemia.

Professor Antoniou holds several editorial roles, including Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Evidence-Based Medicine, Associate Editor of the Hellenic Journal of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery, and Statistical Editor for the European Journal of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery.

Professor Antoniou specializes in open and keyhole surgery for aortic aneurysm, hybrid (combined open and keyhole) surgery for diseased/blocked arteries in the legs (peripheral arterial disease), surgery on carotid arteries for stroke prevention, diabetic foot surgery, and treatments for varicose and thread veins. He applies minimally invasive therapies for varicose and thread veins, including radiofrequency ablation, laser therapy, and foam sclerotherapy.
