Dr Lunan graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2001 and after undertaking her basic surgical training she spent time working in Australia prior to returning to Scotland and completing her GP training. She worked for several years as a GP partner before transitioning into Sport and Exercise Medicine and entering the specialist register via CESR. Her background as a GP helps Dr Lunan deliver a holistic, patient centred approach to her consultations and treatment plans.
Dr Lunan has worked within and for a number of sports including; golf, rugby, football, athletics, swimming, triathlon, cycling and tennis, currently working as a contract sports doctor at the Scottish Institute of Sport. She recently reprised the role of Scottish Women’s Football National Team doctor and sits on the SFA Performance advisory group. Last summer she worked as one of the Team GB medical officers at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, having also worked in youth winter and summer Olympic Games as well as for Team Scotland at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Dr Lunan regularly participates in teaching, having been an educational supervisor for several years. She is currently an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and teaches for the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine and University of Edinburgh. She teaches on Sport Promote, the Level three pitch side emergency care course, both in Scotland and abroad. She recently spent two years as Chair of Movement for Health, a national coalition of leading health charities and partners with the aim of supporting those living with long term conditions become more physically active.
