Personal Profile

I graduated from Edinburgh University in 1978. My early jobs were in Edinburgh followed by Glasgow. I then developed an interest in surgery and joined the West of Scotland surgical rotation scheme where I gained a Fellowship in General Surgery. I then specialised in ENT and my initial training was in Glasgow followed by 5 years in London at the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital and Great Ormond Street.

My final training post was at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham followed by Leicester Royal Infirmary. I gained further Fellowships in ENT from the Edinburgh College and the English College. I was appointed Consultant in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in 1992.

My role as a Consultant has allowed me to continue my interest in all aspects of ENT whilst developing specialist clinics in Paediatric ENT. I continue to operate in both adults and children.

I have provided training for both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees and act as a supervisor for them. I have been Head of Service and continue to offer help in management decisions. I have published in national and international journals covering a wide range of ENT topics. I have also been a trainee for East of Scotland trainees in Ear and Sinus teaching and helped run a specialist group for teaching management of Paediatric airway disease.
