Mr David Lam graduated in 1993 from Guy's Hospital Medical School (BSc(Hons) MB BS), and started his surgical training in London to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS(Eng.)) in 1998.
Plastic and reconstructive surgical training continued at Salisbury, Stoke Mandeville and the Oxford Radcliffe Infirmary. As a Clinical Research Fellow in the laser treatment of burns, his thesis was unconditionally awarded a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) by the University of London in 2005. After passing the Intercollegiate Fellowship in Plastic Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2004 (FRCS(Plast.)) he did the Microsurgical Fellowship for a year in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia. This is an internationally recognized centre of excellence for plastic and reconstructive surgery. During this time abroad, he also gained considerable aesthetic surgery experience with Adelaide Plastic Surgery Associates, a leading Australian private practice.
Research and Publications
Mr Lam was registered into the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery in October 2005 and is a Full Member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS). He has published widely in Plastic Surgery and presented internationally in Greece, Italy, Australia, Hong Kong and the UK.
Teaching and Training
NHS Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Royal Hallamshire and Northern General Hospitals in Sheffield from 2006 to 2022 where he specialised in Breast Reconstruction together with the management of Skin Cancer. He chaired the Clinical Governance Committee in Plastic Surgery (2006-12) with the purpose of maintaining patient safety and was Undergraduate Lead for Plastic Surgery (2006-22). A keen teacher, he is a recognised surgical trainer by the GMC, mentoring at all levels up to and including Consultants.
Elected to BAPRAS Council for 2012-14, he is on the Panel of Examiners for the Intercollegiate Specialty Board in Plastic Surgery 2012-2023 to maintain the standards of UK Plastic Surgery at the highest level, hosting the 2022 National Examination in Sheffield for future consultants. Now in full time private practice, he specializes in breast and body contouring surgery along with all aspects of aesthetic facial rejuvenation at Thornbury and Claremont Hospitals in Sheffield.
