Having gained a degree in physiology, specialising in the biology of nerve and muscle, from Cambridge University, he qualified in Medicine also from Cambridge in 1996. He completed orthopaedic training in Oxford, during which time he was awarded a Research Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England to study the function of partial and total knee replacements.
Mr Hollinghurst gained further experience during fellowships working with world class surgeons at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, British Columbia Children’s Hospital, Vancouver and a visiting fellowship in joint preservation of the young adult hip in Children’s Hospital Boston.
Training in both children’s and adult hip and knee surgery has fostered a strong interest in managing problems in patients of all age groups. The varied experience and different philosophies gained from training in four different health care systems has helped Mr Hollinghurst provide individual solutions for young, active or athletic patients.
Outside work Mr Hollinghurst remains a keen amateur sportsman racing in cycle sportives, triathlons, playing racket sports and high altitude mountaineering in the European Alps.
