Darren Gillett

Professional Profile

Mr Darren Gillett is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon with more than 30 years’ experience.  He offers expertise in all aspects of general adult and paediatric ENT, as well as specialist knowledge in ear surgery, dizziness and tinnitus, sinus disease, rhinitis and benign head and neck pathology.

Training and Appointment

Mr Gillett was educated and grew up in West London. Prior to his entry into Guys and St Thomas' medical school in 1990, he was awarded an academic scholarship, by The English Speaking Union, to an American University for one year. This provided a valuable academic and social experience. During Medical School, Mr Gillett pursued his interest in sport, receiving his colours for golf and football. He qualified as a doctor in 1995.

He worked in a number of busy posts in General Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and A&E in southeast England during his general surgical training, before taking up an ENT position at The Royal Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital in London.
During this time, he became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded The Diploma of Laryngology and Otology.

His ENT training gave him experience and expertise not only in District General Hospitals, but also in tertiary referral centres such as Guys, Kings & St Thomas' Hospitals, and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children. He also developed a particular sub-specialty interest in Otology (diseases of the ear) and Ear Surgery.

In 2006 he was awarded an observership at The Causse Ear Clinic, Béziers, France, by the prestigious TWJ foundation. In 2008, Mr Gillett was appointed as a Consultant ENT Surgeon at The Homerton NHS Foundation Trust, St Bartholomew's and The Royal London Hospitals.

His role at Homerton University Hospital provides exposure to a wide range of adult and paediatric Ear, Nose and Throat pathology, and is a very rewarding practice.

Teaching and Publications

Mr Gillett has been responsible for developing the ENT department at his NHS base, Homerton University Hospital. He enjoys supervising regional trainees, teaching medical students and lecturing other doctors within the Trust.  He has published over 20 peer reviewed articles.
