Personal Profile

Mr Dan Selo-Ojeme is senior consultant gynaecologist with the Royal Free London NHS Trust and works at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital. He is a highly experienced and well-rounded gynaecologist, with over 30 years of experience in his field. He strives to put his patient’s interests at the core of his clinical practice through frank and detailed open discussions.  He takes time to explain patients’ conditions and available options of treatment with the result that his patients often say ‘..nobody has explained it to me like this before!’. Many of his referrals come from ‘word-of-mouth’ recommendations from relatives and friends of previously very satisfied customers, and from his colleagues. Although Mr Selo-Ojeme is a gynaecological surgeon, he does try to avoid unnecessary operations and investigations if he honestly believes that they would not be in the patient’s best interest. He also would not perform any operations or procedures privately which he does not routinely perform within his NHS practice. He regularly updates his clinical knowledge and skills in line with current national and international recommendations, and he regularly audits his clinical practice to ensure that his performance is in keeping with national and international standards.

Mr Selo-Ojeme has successfully performed hundreds of simple and complex abdominal [open], laparoscopic [keyhole] and vaginal surgeries with high patient satisfaction rates. Over the years, he has developed a sub-specialist interest in female pelvic health, pelvic floor reconstructive surgery [which includes uterine and vaginal wall prolapse], and urinary incontinence. He also has considerable experience and expertise in the management of uterine fibroids, chronic pelvic pain, irregular and heavy periods, abnormal cervical smears, and ‘loose’ or gaping vagina. He Leads the Urogynaecology service at the Barnet and Chase farm hospitals.

Mr. Selo-Ojeme graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1980 and came to the UK in 1997 following completion of postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Nigeria, with a Gold Medal Prize award. Once he moved over to the UK, he had additional professional training, going through the rigorous North Thames Postgraduate training rotation, and became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists [MRCOG] in November 1998, and was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2004. That same year, he was appointed consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist in Barnet & Chase Farm hospitals NHS Trust. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists [FRCOG] in September 2011

In addition to his busy practice, Mr. Selo-Ojeme is active in the field of clinical research. He is widely published with over 70 peer reviewed publications, and has won many research awards. He is also a talented teacher and taught over 2500 midwives across the UK over a 10-year period as Director of London Perineal Surgical Skills Workshop for Midwives. He is an accredited Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists Educational Supervisor as well as a Urogynaecology Preceptor. Mr Selo-Ojeme has held the posts of Director of Medical Education, Simulation Director, RCOG College Tutor, Divisional Appraisal Lead, Clinical Audit Lead and Gynaecology Clinical Governance Lead. He is a keen golfer and plays off HC 18.
