He was the first to introduce LASH (laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy) in the East Midlands. He performs this procedure in a wide range of cases, including larger wombs that are not always considered suitable for this technique. For patients, this can mean a shorter hospital stay, often around 23 hours.
Mr von Widekind has extensive experience in diagnosing and managing a wide range of gynaecological conditions, including:
He uses ultrasound as a key diagnostic tool to support accurate assessment and guide treatment decisions.
Mr von Widekind runs a one-stop clinic for patients with abnormal bleeding and suspected ovarian cysts.
This approach allows for faster diagnosis and helps patients begin appropriate treatment without unnecessary delays.
Mr von Widekind qualified as a doctor in Berlin, Germany, in 1988. He began his medical career at Krankenhaus Neukölln, a teaching hospital and one of the first centres in Germany to provide training in keyhole gynaecological surgery.
Here, he gained extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic procedures and developed the skills required for complex minimally invasive surgery. He was appointed to a Consultant role at a teaching hospital affiliated with Cologne University in 1998.
After previously working in England during the 1980s, he returned to the UK in 2001 and took up a Consultant post at Northampton General Hospital. Since then, he has played a key role in developing gynaecological services and has received several Clinical Excellence Awards for his contributions.
Mr von Widekind has a longstanding interest in advancing laparoscopic techniques, particularly in the treatment of gynaecological infections and cancer.
He completed his doctoral thesis on laparoscopy and pelvic abscess and has presented his work at national meetings and international conferences.
His early exposure to new surgical technologies helped shape his approach to patient care, with a strong focus on minimally invasive techniques and improved outcomes.
Mr von Widekind is committed to providing effective, personalised care. By combining advanced imaging with minimally invasive surgical techniques, he aims to deliver accurate diagnosis, reduce recovery time, and improve patient outcomes.
