Training and Appointment
After graduating from King's College London in 2002, Mr Skilbeck undertook his early training in South-East London, following which, as a specialist registrar, he worked in many of the major London teaching hospitals, including Guy’s & St Thomas, King's College, The Royal Marsden, Great Ormond Street, Charing Cross and The Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospitals.
During his specialist training he successfully passed the compulsory FRCS (ORL-HNS) exam in 2010 and demonstrated his operative skill at the Royal Society of Medicine National Temporal Bone Competition in 2012.
Having completed his specialist Otolaryngology training, Mr Skilbeck embarked on further training in Skull Base Surgery and advanced otology with prestigious 12-month fellowships in London and Cambridge.
Mr Skilbeck was awarded the Nan Blofeld Award in 2009 which allowed travel to The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, USA. In 2013 The Royal Society of Medicine Section of Otology awarded him a travelling scholarship, which facilitated a visit Ospedaliera Papa Giovanni XXIII in Bergamo, Italy.
Having returned to London in 2014, Mr Skilbeck commenced his consultant work at Guy's & St Thomas, where he is also Lead Clinician in the Multidisciplinary Facial Nerve Team.
Most recently, he has performed Balloon Eustachian Tuboplasty for patients with Eustachian Tube Dysfunction.
Publications, lectures and teaching
Mr Skilbeck is passionate about education and has written papers and book chapters as well as acting as a reviewer for medical journals. He is a regular faculty member of training courses and is responsible for the supervision of surgical trainees.
