Mr Christopher D James is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hand and wrist conditions. He practices privately at Chaucer Hospital and holds an NHS consultant position at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. His clinical focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of upper limb disorders, helping patients regain function, reduce pain, and return to everyday activities as quickly as possible.
Mr James graduated from the University of London with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). He undertook his specialist orthopaedic training on the prestigious South East London Orthopaedic Rotation, gaining experience across leading teaching hospitals including King’s College London and Guy’s and St Thomas’. This training provided him with a strong foundation in both routine and complex orthopaedic care.
Following completion of his UK training, Mr James was invited to further develop his expertise internationally at the renowned Brisbane Upper Limb Institute in Australia. During this advanced fellowship, he worked alongside leading specialists in hand and upper limb surgery, gaining extensive experience in managing complex conditions and refining advanced surgical techniques.
Mr James has been a Consultant at East Kent Hospitals for over seven years and is well regarded for his approachable manner and commitment to high-quality patient care. He treats a wide range of conditions affecting the hand, wrist and elbow, including carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis of the hand and wrist, Dupuytren’s contracture, tennis elbow, and hand and wrist injuries. He also performs procedures such as joint replacements and the removal of lumps and cysts.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr James is actively involved in teaching and professional development. He regularly leads training courses and contributes to national and international meetings. He has also authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, supporting ongoing advancements in orthopaedic practice.
