Personal Profile

Mr Christopher Challand has been a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals since 2016. He specialises in minimally-invasive (laparoscopic) bowel resection surgery but also has an interest in incisional hernia repair and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. He is a JAG-certified lower gastrointestinal endoscopist. He provides a comprehensive range of investigations and treatments for common abdominal and colorectal conditions including rectal bleeding and bowel disturbance.

His undergraduate training was at the University of Bristol before working throughout the south-west in Plymouth and Bristol. He completed his higher surgical training in the East of England Deanery at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.

He was the lead researcher on clinical studies into improving the outcomes for patients undergoing major colorectal bowel resections and is widely published in the field of colorectal and general surgery.

He is currently the Clinical Lead and Governance Lead for General Surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

Clinical Interests

Mr Challand specialises in minimally-invasive (laparoscopic) surgery for benign and malignant colorectal conditions with a specialist interest in cancer and IBD.

Furthermore he offers a specialist practice in ventral/incisional hernia repair and complex abdominal wall reconstruction.

He provides a comprehensive range of treatments for the majority of benign anorectal conditions including fistula-in-ano, fissure-in-ano, haemorrhoids and anal skin tags.

He appraises the latest techniques before incorporating them into his practice.
