About Professor Christopher Boos

Personal Profile

Professor Boos undertook his primary medical degree (MBBS) at Imperial College in London. Thereafter, he undertook Junior Doctor training posts at St Mary’s Hospital London, the Royal London, the Royal Brompton and Portsmouth Hospitals. His first four years of specialist cardiology training were undertaken in the Wessex Deanery. Thereafter, he moved to the West Midlands Deanery where he undertook a research MD in Cardiovascular risk before completing his specialist training in cardiology. As a result of this he has benefited from working in several specialized cardiothoracic surgical Centres. He is a recognised specialist in heart failure and device therapy. His other interests include cardiovascular risk assessment, atrial fibrillation, the breathless patient and sports cardiology.

Professor Boos moved from Birmingham to Dorset in 2008 to start his consultant post at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD). He has been appointed as a visiting Professor at Both Leeds Beckett and Bournemouth Universities in recognition of his outstanding academic output. He continues to supervise higher degrees at Bournemouth University along with co-supervision at Kings’ and Imperial College London and Leeds Becket Universities. Professor Boos has published >150 articles in peer reviewed journals. He has a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from the University of Leicester and a PhD from the University of Bournemouth. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), London, which is a marker of excellence for Physicians. He is a Visiting Professor at St George’s Medical School, Grenada and is the lead for teaching their students within Cardiology at UHD.

Professor Boos has been the lead for Cardiac Research at Poole and has been the Principle Investigator for a number of international clinical trials. He is the founding member and Chairman of the South Coast Heart Failure Meeting. He leads a tertiary cardiopulmonary exercise testing service to investigate patients with complex conditions and unexplained breathlessness.

Professor Boos is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society, UK, the British Society for Heart Failure, the Cardiomyopathy Association, the Atrial Fibrillation Association, Cardiac Risk in the Young
(CRY) Association, the European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation, the British Society for Echocardiography, the British Cardiac Society and Heart Rhythm UK.

Professor Boos considers himself to be affable and highly patient focused. He is extremely hard-working and efficient and strives to see all new referrals within one week of referral receipt.
