Mr Bailey completed his undergraduate medical training in Leeds and basic surgical training in Newcastle-upon-Tyne before higher orthopaedic surgical training at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, Shropshire. He gained extensive experience in the management of traumatic and degenerate conditions of the lower limbs and completed his training with a Sports Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Fellowship in Australia.

His research interests include the biomechanical testing of orthopaedic implants, computer-assisted surgery and the clinical outcomes of procedures for kneecap disorders.

Mr Bailey has an NHS practice at Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust where he manages disorders of the knee and treats upper and lower limb trauma. He is closely involved in the establishment of a comprehensive elective joint replacement service at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.

His main interests are the management of sports injuries and the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly in younger people. He undertook Fellowship training at Sportsmed SA, the largest sports medicine hospital in Australia, where he treated traumatic injuries and degenerate conditions in amateur and professional athletes.

Mr Bailey undertakes partial and total joint replacement procedures using minimally invasive and computer-assisted techniques and uses the latest technology in bearing surfaces which aim to increase the longevity of modern joint replacements. He performs a large number of knee arthroplasty procedures and has excellent outcomes on the National Joint Registry.

He enjoys teaching junior surgeons to perform high quality knee replacement procedures and he is an examiner for Royal College of Surgeons.

Mr Bailey is an Associate Professor at St George’s University Medical School, Grenada and he has been Surgical Clerkship Director at the Royal Hampshire County hospital since 2011.

His management roles include being Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at Sarum Road Hospital between 2016 and 2022 and he remains on this committee.  He is the Orthopaedic expert for the patient safety incident response framework at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
