Dr Densem is a leading local cardiologist from the world famous Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, the largest Heart and Lung Hospital in Great Britain. He trained in the North West of England having a particular emphasis on coronary heart disease, heart failure and cardiac transplantation. He then proceeded to work in North America for advanced coronary and valvular heart disease training before returning to the United Kingdom in 2006.

He is the local heart attack specialist for the West Suffolk area, being instrumental in setting up the program of advanced heart attack management in the area. If you were to have a heart attack there is a high chance that you would receive emergency treatment within the hour by Dr Densem. Since 2007 he has also offered an advanced cardiology service to the Bury St Edmunds population by visiting and performing a clinic at the West Suffolk Hospital.

Dr Densem is a renowned specialist in the treatment of coronary artery and valvular heart disease. He was one of the first doctors in the world to conduct keyhole aortic valve replacement removing the need for surgery. Having  imported these techniques from his North American experience he is able to perform valve replacement operations on a beating heart without opening the chest, working via the leg arteries. This has transformed the treatment of this condition for many patients who would otherwise have no other options.

Dr Densem also has particular expertise in coronary angioplasty and stenting as well as septal ablation for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.  Working at Papworth means that he is routinely seeing the most complex and high risk patients either in clinic, as planned operations or as emergencies.

He is regularly asked to give lectures both nationally and internationally. As a lot of his work is very practical he also arranges local teaching and training courses often involving live operations or simulators.

Dr Densem sees all general cardiology patients but has a special interest in the assessment of chest pain, coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty and valvular heart disease. Being a local cardiologist he is also very well placed to advise on any other local specialists who may also need to get involved.   Patients seen in Bury St Edmunds that require more specialised cardiac investigation can be admitted and treated in private wing of the world renowned Papworth Hospital or the West Suffolk Hospital, as is convenient.
