About Mr Antony Raymond

Personal Profile

Mr Antony Raymond is a specialist hip and knee surgeon with interests in joint replacement, sports injuries, joint instability and keyhole surgery. He trained primarily in the UK and did additional specialist training in Australia and the USA.

Antony did his basic surgical training at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and completed his orthopaedic surgery training on the University College London Hospital Orthopaedic Programme in 2019.

During his orthopaedic training in London, Antony developed a passion for sports surgery by working for renowned soft tissue knee surgeon Mr David Sweetnam. He gained complex lower limb joint replacement experience at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and specialist sports and major trauma surgery skills at the Royal London Hospital.

Antony subsequently won the international Orthopaedic Trauma Association travelling fellowship to the busiest trauma centre in the USA; Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, Texas and the esteemed Tampa General Hospital, Florida.

Whilst in America, he also completed an observership at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS - America’s number 1 hospital over the past decade) in New York learning techniques in hip arthroscopy. Antony returned to the UK to complete the hip surgery fellowship at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Next, Antony secured the highly competitive Perth Sports Surgery Fellowship in 2021 with Mr Peter D’Alessandro (Australia’s leading sports surgeon) where he focussed on all aspects of arthroscopic hip surgery and soft tissue knee reconstruction. He finally picked up a range of the state-of-the-art skills in hip and knee replacement surgery whilst on the Fremantle Hospital arthroplasty fellowship under Professor Piers Yates in Perth.

Antony is currently a Consultant at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Trust, where his focus is on hip surgery as well as hip & knee sports and trauma surgery.

Outside medicine, Antony is a keen sportsman who enjoys rugby, kitesurfing, surfing and yoga.
