About Ami Shukla

Personal Profile

Mrs Ami Shukla is an experienced Consultant Gynaecologist and Urogynaecologist based in Northamptonshire. She specialises in pelvic floor disorders, bladder problems, and women’s health. Her approach is focused on providing clear, personalised care to improve comfort and quality of life.

She sees private patients at the Three Shires Hospital in Northampton. She treats both common and complex conditions, using modern techniques and evidence-based care.

Mrs Shukla has specialist expertise in pelvic floor and bladder conditions. These include vaginal prolapse, bladder and bowel prolapse, and urinary incontinence. She treats both stress and urge incontinence, as well as overactive bladder and urinary urgency. She also manages recurrent urinary infections, bladder pain, and interstitial cystitis.

In addition, she provides care for a wide range of general gynaecological problems. These include heavy or irregular periods, postmenopausal bleeding, and bleeding after intercourse. She also treats pelvic pain and painful intercourse. Her work covers conditions such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, uterine polyps, endometriosis, and pelvic inflammatory disease.

Mrs Shukla supports women with menopause symptoms and offers hormone replacement therapy where appropriate. She also treats vaginal infections, including recurrent thrush and bacterial vaginosis, as well as hormonal concerns that may affect libido.

She offers a full range of treatments. These include hysteroscopy and laparoscopy (keyhole surgery), as well as prolapse and incontinence procedures. She performs hysterectomy, endometrial ablation, and ovary removal when needed. She also provides pelvic ultrasound scans. For prolapse surgery, she does not routinely use mesh. For incontinence, both mesh and non-mesh options are available.

Mrs Shukla trained in India before moving to the UK. She became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1999 and a Fellow in 2010. She also holds an MSc in Medical Ultrasound and a Diploma in Medical Law. She has published research in urodynamics and voiding dysfunction.

She works at Northampton General Hospital, where she is Head of Urogynaecology. She specialises in complex pelvic floor and bladder conditions.

Private consultations are available at the Three Shires Hospital in Northampton. Clinics are held on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday afternoons, and Thursday afternoons. Early assessment of symptoms such as pelvic pain, bladder problems, or abnormal bleeding can help improve outcomes.
