Personal Profile
Alasdair graduated from Aberdeen University with commendation in 1990 which included a placement at the National University of Singapore in 1989. His house jobs were in Onclogy/General Medicine and Cardio-Thoracic surgery at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, followed by a two year general medical rotation at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Alasdair started his training in ophthalmology in 1993 at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow. He completed higher surgical training in Aberdeen via Inverness and spent six months studying strabismus and strabismus surgery at Ninewells hospital under the supervision of the current president of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Prof. Carrie Macewen. Dr Purdie’s special interests include macular degeneration, cataract, diabetic eye disease and strabismus. He lives with his wife and three children in South Lanarkshire. He is a keen golfer, open water swimmer and cyclist.
