Personal Profile

Mr Gillespie is a Consultant Gynaecologist at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, with a private practice at Thornbury.
He qualified in London in 1992 and subsequently trained in Sheffield and Cambridge gaining dual specialist accreditation in 2003 in Obstetrics/Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology (Cancer).

Mr Gillespie was appointed Consultant Gynaecological Surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in 2003. He has introduced many service improvements and innovations including advanced keyhole surgery techniques, offering surgical training programmes to all levels of trainee.  He also mentors consultant colleagues in advanced gynaecological laparoscopic surgery. Mr Gillespie is an International Trainer at the renowned European Surgical Institute. He has recently introduced the DaVinci surgical robot into surgical practice in Sheffield.

Mr Gillespie is the Lead Clinician for Gynaecological Cancer services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Thanks to his efforts, private gynaecology services can be provided in a nationally recognised fully accredited centre for the investigation and management of gynaecological cancer.

Mr Gillespie has published a large number of research papers and abstracts in many aspects of gynaecology including keyhole surgery, surgical techniques, cancer, colposcopy and robotics. He has been invited to present his research finding in the UK, Europe, Asia and America.

I aim to provide the highest standards of care. Private consultations are offered at Thornbury and my service is patient centred with consultation times offered conveniently both in and outside of normal working hours.  I offer a personal and individual service with 30 minute consultation times to enable all patient’s concerns and worries to be addressed.  Reassuring patients as quickly as possible about the underling nature of their problems is a key goal of my service. This approach leads to extremely high levels of patient satisfaction”.
