Mr Ajay Swaminathan is a Consultant Gynaecologist & Menopause Specialist at Beaumont Hospital in Bolton and Circle Cheshire Clinic in Northwich.
He is also a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with his NHS practice. This is based at Mid Cheshire (Leighton) Hospital and the Hewitt Fertility Centre (HFC) in Knutsford, part of Liverpool Women’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Mr Swaminathan is also a 'British Menopause Society' accredited 'menopause specialist', after being a named specialist on their register.
His areas of special interest are:
- Menopause
- Subfertility
- Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery including for endometriosis and pelvic pain
He is the 'Deputy Lead for Gynaecological Oncology' at Leighton Hospital and a member of the 'South Manchester Cancer Network MDT' (multi-disciplinary team). Here, he performs keyhole hysterectomies for endometrial cancers.
Ajay joined Mid Cheshire Hospitals as a Consultant in 2012 after completing his training in the Mersey rotation. He attended the 'Kiel School of Gynaecological Endoscopy' in Germany. He is also a 'British Fertility Society' accredited specialist in 'pelvic ultrasound'.

At Leighton Hospital, he implemented the 'enhanced recovery programme' for gynaecological surgery and streamlined the consenting process for gynaecological surgeries.
He was the 'Principal Investigator' at Leighton Hospital for the 'GaPP2 trial' (a multi-centre randomised controlled trial looking at Gabapentin in pelvic pain).
Ajay completed his Diploma in 'Management' in 2012 from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is involved in recruiting candidates at 'ST' level both locally and regionally, as well as being a 'chair' and 'panellist' at consultant interviews. Ajay mentors newly-appointed consultants at Mid Cheshire Hospitals.
He is involved in training candidates for the 'Membership of The Royal College of Gynaecologists' (MRCOG) examinations and was an 'RCOG' moderator for the 'Enhanced Revision Programme'. He was also the 'Departmental Lead for Undergraduate Medical Education' with the Manchester Medical School.
