Dr Ahmad Khwanda is a highly experienced and respected Consultant Cardiologist based at the Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley, where he has served since 2020. With extensive training in cardiology and a passion for providing exceptional care, Dr. Khwanda has earned a reputation for his commitment to patient outcomes and his personalised approach to treatment.

He currently holds the position of Patient Outcomes Lead for cardiology at the Princess Royal University Hospital and its associated sites, where he reviews and ensure safe and quality care practice and works hard with is colleagues to continually improve patient outcomes in cardiology. He is also currently leading the Transthoracic and specialist Echo service at Shirley Oaks Hospital.

Education and Training

Dr Khwanda qualified from Damascus University in 2004 with honours. In 2005, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he passed the GMC PLAB exam. He completed his general medical training before becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2011.

Dr Khwanda then undertook specialised cardiology training at several of London’s most renowned hospitals, including the Princess Royal University Hospital, King’s College Hospital, Ealing Hospital, and Imperial College London.

Between 2010 and 2015, he was the local Co-Investigator for two major clinical studies, IMPROVE-IT and Protect-PACE, both of which have advanced our understanding of cardiovascular diseases and treatments. His research work has also led to contributions in peer-reviewed journals, where he has published frequently on a range of cardiology topics.

In addition to his research, Dr Khwanda authored a chapter in the Oxford Textbook of Heart Failure (2022).

Teaching

Dr Khwanda has a strong passion for medical education, having worked as a Teaching Fellow at Imperial College London, where he was nominated for a Teaching Excellence Award in recognition of his dedication to student learning. In addition to his academic role, he frequently teaches at the Princess Royal University Hospital, where his contributions to medical education have been acknowledged with three certificates for "Outstanding Contributions to Medical Education.

Dr Khwanda is an active participant in multidisciplinary team meetings, including Heart Failure MDTs and Chest Pain MDTs, where he collaborates with other specialists to provide holistic, patient-centred care.
