Personal Profile

Mr Aaron McAvoy is a Consultant Gynaecologist working at Worthing Hospital. He has a special interest in acute gynaecology, benign gynaecology and management of menstrual disorders.

Mr McAvoy trained initially in Northern Ireland before moving to England in 2017 to complete his training, with advanced training modules in Gynaecology oncology and hysteroscopy. During his training he developed a broad range of experience in benign gynaecology and advanced minimal access surgery. He runs a weekly clinic in hysteroscopy specialising in the management of endometrial abnormalities and treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding, as well as the assessment of women with suspected cancer.

He uses minimal access laparoscopic techniques to treat other gynaecological conditions such as endometriosis, and ovarian pathology such as ovarian cysts and performs advanced laparoscopic surgeries such as total laparoscopic hysterectomy for treatment of benign conditions. Mr McAvoy is happy to treat a broad range of gynaecological conditions such as pelvic pain, menstrual disorders, fibroids, polyps, prolapse, menopause, sexual dysfunction, post-menopausal bleeding and ovulatory disorders.

Mr McAvoy is a GMC accredited educational supervisor in obstetrics and gynaecology, and currently holds the role of college tutor for obstetrics and gynaecology, which involves overseeing the training of all junior doctors in gynaecology, at Worthing and St Richards hospital. Part of this work involves training on human factors, laparoscopic surgery, anatomy and perioperative care.

Mr McAvoy is a champion for women’s healthcare and believes in working with patients to explore the correct avenue towards a treatment that is right for them at every stage of life. He aims to listen carefully to each individual, and work with them to explore a range of options which may be right for them.
