How long will my appointment last for?
An initial GP appointment will last for 20 minutes. If your GP wishes to see you for a follow up appointment, this will last approximately 15 minutes.
Do I have to pay for parking?
No. We have two spacious car parks on site: one at the back of the hospital and the other on the side. Just remember to register your car registration at reception to avoid getting a parking fine.
Will your GPs have access to my previous medical history?
We ask that all patients have access to the NHS App during their consultation, as this will allow the private GP to review their previous medical history. With the patient’s permission, a copy of the consultation will be sent to their NHS GP to ensure continuity of care. Providing an up-to-date list of any current medications would also be very helpful.
Can I see the same GP as last time?
Yes. You are fully welcome to keep booking appointment with the same GP.
Can I use my private medical insurance?
You will need to speak with your insurance provider to confirm whether they will cover the cost of your appointment. However, most UK based insurance companies will not cover the cost of a Private GP appointment.
Are tests included in the cost of my GP visit?
No. The cost of your GP visit covers consultation and professional advice only, although it does include the cost of writing a prescription if deemed necessary.
Can Private GPs issue prescriptions?
Yes. All GPs can issue prescriptions. However, a private prescription differs from an NHS prescription as there will be a cost. Your GP will explain this and discuss any necessary medication with you during your visit.
If I’m issued with a private prescription, where can I take it?
We have an on-site pharmacy, so you can collect your medication directly if it is in stock. Alternatively, you can visit your local pharmacy or nearest Boots store, which will be able to provide your prescription.
Do I have the option to be referred back to my NHS GP, if I need to see a specialist consultant?
Yes. Your GP will discuss everything with you, including the next appropriate steps. If they advise a referral to a specialist, they will explain your options privately. If you choose not to pursue private treatment, your GP can issue you a letter to give to your NHS GP, outlining your appointment and recommended next steps. Your NHS GP/ Medical Practice can then make a referral to your nearest trust on your behalf.
