Hand surgery

Expert care for hand & wrist concerns

At The Winterbourne Hospital, we offer a range of private treatments for hand pain, including hand therapy and minimally invasive hand surgery, if you’re based in Dorchester, Weymouth, Bridport and the surrounding areas.

If you are suffering from pins and needles, weakness and clumsiness and sometimes pain in your hands you could have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). The good news is that carpal tunnel syndrome doesn’t have to be something you live with.

Private Hand Surgery Clinic in Dorchester

Our team of experienced and highly specialist private consultants and therapists offer comprehensive assessment, consultation and an individualised treatment plan to ensure your hand pain is treated quickly and efficiently.

Private Minimally Invasive Carpal Tunnel Surgery in Dorchester

Traditionally carpal tunnel surgery has been performed through a so-called open procedure.

A long (4-5 cm) incision is made in the palm and onto the forearm to access the carpal tunnel.

Key-hole or endoscopic surgery enables the surgery to be undertaken through a tiny incision (1 cm) in the lower forearm.

It also, importantly, enables both wrists to be operated on at the same time which is not usually advisable for open carpal tunnel release.

It is important to note that if CTS is in both wrists, it can be due to neck issues and this should be explored to assess the cause of CTS.

Operating on both wrists at once is particularly beneficial for patients in whom both hands are significantly affected by carpal tunnel symptoms but who do not wish to have a significant period away from work or hobbies.

What are the benefits of the private treatment in Dorchester?

This private endoscopic treatment has many benefits including less pain and an earlier return to full activity.

How quickly can I go back to work?

Each patient is different and it does depend on the type of job you do but if you don’t do a lot of repetitive actions or have a highly active role you may be able to return to work within 1 to 2 days.

Do I need a referral?

Not necessarily, self-pay patients are able to book an initial consultation without a referral. This will involve a thorough examination to determine if CTS surgery is right for you.

Payment Options

Accessing private healthcare is easy, whether you choose to pay directly or use private medical insurance.

If you are paying for yourself, we can usually offer an upfront cost which you can then choose to pay in full or access one of our easy payment options.

If you have insurance, we can arrange direct settlement with your insurance provider, although you should check in advance to see if your treatment is covered. For more information, visit our private medical insurance page.
